Diagnostic Tests for Acute Gastritis
- Usually no tests required; if severe case may require stool and blood cultures and electrolyte studies. If diarrhoea >3 weeks duration, may require sigmoidoscopy/colonoscopy and rectal biopsy; prolonged vomiting or haematemesis (blood in vomit) may warrant gastroscopy
