Glossary for Adult Acne

  • Achlorhydria: A deficiency of hydrochloric acid in the digestive juices in the stomach. The resulting high pH prevents normal food digestion. The abnormality may be caused by such things as pernicious anemia, autoimmune thyroid disease and chronic gastritis.
  • Acne: Pimples and blackheads on the face and skin.
  • Cushing's syndrome: A rare syndrome where excessive secretion of corticosteroids by the adrenal cortex leads to a variety of symptoms. Hormone-secreting adrenal or pituitary tumors are often the cause of the excessive corticosteroid secretion.
  • Facial rash: A rash anatomically located on the face
