Adult Acne



Adult Acne: Introduction

Many adults suffer from acne at some stage in their life. The causes are not well known but the onset of acne in an adult for the first time should be assessed by a medical professional as hormonal abnormalities may be the cause. Adult acne can be difficult to treat especially if the cause can be determined.

Symptoms of Adult Acne

  • Pimples and pimple-like lesions on face, neck (esp. back of neck), upper arms, upper back, chest (décolletage area), shoulders
  • Comedones (whitehead and blackhead pimples)
  • Red nodules and cysts
  • Facial itching and localised pain at site of pimple
  • Endocrine symptoms: irregular periods, infertility, obesity, facial hair in female, deepening of voice in female
