Glossary for Angioma

  • Alcoholic liver disease: Alcoholic liver disease is the major cause of liver disease in Western countries, (in Asian countries, viral hepatitis is the major cause). It arises from the excessive ingestion of alcohol.
  • Angioma hereditary neurocutaneous: A rare genetic condition characterized angiomas involving both the skin and nervous system.
  • Birthmark: Skin marking appearing from birth
  • Cirrhosis of the liver: Scarring of the liver from alcohol or other causes.
  • Fabry's Disease: Genetic fat storage disorder
  • Hemangioma: A condition which is characterized by a benign tumour cause by newly formed blood vessels
  • Kaposi's Sarcoma: Kaposi's sarcoma is a cancerous tumor of the connective tissue, and is often associated with AIDS.
  • Kaposiform hemangio-endothelioma: A rare blood vessel tumor that occur primarily in children. It causes localized damage but is not metastatic. Main sites affected are the retroperitoneum and skin but can also occur in the head and neck area, mediastinum and deep soft tissue of the trunk and limbs. Symptoms and prognosis is determined by the size and location of the tumors.
  • Klippel-Trenaunay Syndrome: A condition which occurs with arthritis and resembles the symptoms of general paresis.
  • Lymphangiomas: A form of angioma caused by lymph vessels
  • Nevus flammeus: A condition which is characterized by any congenital skin lesion
  • PHACE association: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by a brain malformation (involving the posterior fossa), large facial hemangioma and eye, heart and artery anomalies.
  • Pregnancy: The condition of supporting a fetus from conception till birth.
  • Pyogenic granuloma:
  • Skin Cancer: Cancer of the skin; the most common type of cancer.
  • Skin symptoms: Symptoms affecting the skin.
  • Sturge-Weber Syndrome: A rare genetic disorder characterized by excessive blood vessel growth, calcium accumulation inside the brain and seizures.
  • Von Hippel-Lindau Disease: Genetic disease causing multiple benign tumors
