A large group of viruses (over 100) that are transmitted mostly by blood-sucking insects such as mosquitoes. The virus usually originates in birds which pass the infection on to mosquitoes which can than transmit it to other animals and people. The infections can range from mild to very serious and even fatal. Dengue fever is just one example of an arbovirus.
