Normal variant (especially with wind or sun exposure)
Endocrine disease
   Chronic liver disease (especially alcoholic cirrhosis)
   Pregnancy, estrogen, or progesterone therapy
   Topical steroid therapy (long-term)
   Hyperthyroidism
Collagen-vascular disease
   Lupus erythematosus, systemic or discoid
   Dermatomyositis
   Rheumatoid arthritis
   Systemic sclerosis, telangiectasia syndrome
Genetically transmitted disease
   Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome (hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia)
   Ataxia-telangiectasia
   Fabry's disease
   Xeroderma pigmentosum
States associated with prolonged vasodilatation (e.g., varicose veins, rosacea, polycythemia vera)
Peripheral vascular disease (e.g., livedo reticularis, erythema ab igne)
Neoplastic disease, especially
   Breast cancer
   Bile duct carcinoma
   Carcinoid tumor
   Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma
   Malignant angioendotheliomatosis
Radiation dermatitis
Mastocytosis
