Glossary for Autoimmune Diabetes Insipidus

  • Autoimmune diseases: A group of disorders in which the primary cause is the an inflammatory reaction caused by the body's own immune system attacking tissues
  • Bartter Syndrome: A rare genetic disorder of kidney metabolism characterized by reduced blood acidity and low potassium levels.
  • Cystinosis: A rare biochemical disorder involving the accumulation of a chemical called cystine in various parts of the body which can cause harmful effects.
  • Diabetes: Failing or reduced ability of the body to handle sugars.
  • Diabetes Insipidus: Rare pituitary disorder often affecting the kidneys.
  • Diabetes insipidus: Rare pituitary disorder often affecting the kidneys.
  • Kidney conditions: Any condition affecting the kidney organs.
  • Neuroblastoma: Neuroblastoma is a malignant (cancerous) tumor of infants and children that develops from nerve tissue.
  • Optic atrophy: Dysfunction of the optic nerve which results in impaired vision. The disorder may be congenital or acquired. The rate and degree of atrophy is greatly variable depending on the cause.
  • Pituitary conditions: Any condition that affects the pituitary
  • Primary Hyperaldosteronism: A condition characterised by the excessive production and release into the circulation of aldosterone
  • Type 2 diabetes: Most common diabetes in adults, usually progressing slowly, mostly treated without insulin at diagnosis.
