Benzodiazepine abuse: Introduction
Excessive use of benzodiazepine drugs. Benzodiazepines are tranquilizers that are usually prescribed for anxiety or sleeping problems. Use over long term, or in high doses can lead to dependency. Chronic users should gradually wean themselves off the drug as suddenly stopping can cause a strong reaction.
