Bone conditions: Introduction

A term that encompasses a large number of disorders that can affect bones. The body's bones protect and support internal organs, allow movement and create and store blood cells. There are about 206 bones in an adult body and 350 in an infant (the bones fuse together as the infant grows). Over half of these bones are located in the hands and feet.
