Glossary for Brown-Sequard Syndrome

  • Bernard-Soulier Syndrome: A rare inherited blood coagulation disorder caused by blood platelet abnormalities which results in easy bruising and excessive bleeding.
  • Bloom Syndrome: A rare genetic inherited genetic disorder which mainly affects Ashkenazic Jewish people and is characterized by short stature, malar hypoplasia, and a telangiectatic erythema of the face.
  • Hemiparesis: One-sided paralysis of the body
  • Hypercalcemia: Raised level of calcium in the blood
  • Meningitis: Dangerous infection of the membranes surrounding the brain.
  • Multiple Sclerosis: Autoimmune attack on spinal nerves causing diverse and varying neural problems.
  • Osteoporosis: Bone thinning and weakening from bone calcium depletion.
  • Shingles: Infectious viral infection occuring years after chickenpox infection.
  • Spinal Cord Disorders: Any condition that affects the spinal cord
  • Spinal Cord Tumor: Cancer of the spinal cord or central nervous system.
  • Spinal cord injury: Spinal cord injury is damage to the spinal cord as a result of a direct trauma to the spinal cord itself or as a result of indirect damage to the bones and soft tissues and vessels surrounding the spinal cord.
  • Tuberculosis: Bacterial infection causing nodules forming, most commonly in the lung.
