Glossary for Carcinoid syndrome

Abdominal pain: A condition which is characterized by the sensation of pain that is located in the abdomen
Alcohol use: Use of alcohol (as a symptom)
Anaphylaxis: A rare, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
Angioedema: Severe and dangerous form of hives with swelling
Asthma: Repeated attacks of breathing difficulty.
Cancer: Abnormal overgrowth of body cells.
Carcinoid crisis: Carcinoid crisis can occur spontaneously or as a response to stress, such as anesthesia or chemotherapy.
Celiac Disease: Digestive intolerance to gluten in the diet.
Crohn's disease: Crohn's disease causes inflammation of the digestive system. It is one of a group of diseases called inflammatory bowel disease. The disease can affect any area from the mouth to the anus. It often affects the lower part of the small intestine called the ileum.
Dehydration: Loss of fluids in the body
Diabetes-like symptoms: Symptoms similar to those of diabetes
Diabetic Diarrhea: Diarrhea that occurs in diabetics as a result of the damage done by diabetes to the digestive system. Digestive system damage is caused by intestinal neuropathy (damage to intestinal nerves) or bacterial overgrowth or both.
Electrolyte imbalance: impairment in the level of electrolytes in the body
Flushing: Involuntary skin redness usually of the face
Hyperthyroidism: Too much thyroid hormone production.
Hypotension: Blood pressure that is too low
Inflammatory bowel disease: Any type of digestive condition caused by bowel inflammation.
Irritable bowel syndrome: Spasms in the colon wall
Kidney Cancer: Cancer that forms in tissues of the kidneys
Menopause: The end of female menstruation and fertility.
Pancreatic islet cell tumors (functioning tumor): A tumor that arises from the pancreatic islet cells and produces too many hormones.
Pheochromocytoma: Pheochromocytoma is a neuroendocrine tumor of the medulla of the adrenal glands (originating in the chromaffin cells), or extra-adrenal chromaffin tissue that failed to involute after birth and secretes excessive amounts of catecholamines, usually epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Systemic mastocytosis: A condition which is characterized by an accumulation of mast cells in the tissues of the body
Tumor lysis syndrome: Metabolic abnormalities that can occur when chemotherapy drugs rapidly destroy tumor cells.
Ulcerative colitis: Ulcerative colitis (Colitis ulcerosa, UC) is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Ulcerative colitis is a form of colitis, a disease of the intestine, specifically the large intestine or colon, that includes characteristic ulcers, or open sores, in the colon.
Urticaria: A vascular reaction of the upper dermis that is marked by elevated patches
Vipoma: A rare disorder caused by an increase in secretion of vasoactive intestinal peptide by the pancreas. The syndrome is often caused by an islet-cell tumor (except for beta cells) in the pancreas.
Wheezing: A whistling like continuous sound that is caused by the respiratory system
