Catheter infection

Catheter infection: Introduction

A bacterial infection that is due to insertion of a catheter. A catheter is a tube that may be inserted in a number of body cavities or vessels for the purpose of providing drainage or allowing injection of fluids. Catheters can also be used to allow access for surgical tools. For example, catheters can be used to drain urine or to allow injection of anesthetic during an epidural procedure.
