Glossary for Chickenpox

Abdominal Pain: A condition which is characterized by the sensation of pain that is located in the abdomen
Aches: General body aches or muscle aches
Atopic dermatitis: Skin disorder characterized by chronic inflammation, and pruritis. Often hereditary and associated with allergic rhinitis and asthma.
Bronchitis: Bronchitis is an inflammation of the air passages within the lungs. It occurs when the trachea and the large and small bronchi within the lungs become inflamed
Chest pain: Pain in the chest area.
Chickenpox: Common viral infection.
Contact dermatitis: Skin reaction to an irritant
Corneal anaesthesia: Damage to the corneal reflex occurs due to damage to the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve
Eczema: Eczema is a chronic skin condition characterized by skin inflammation and irritation. The severity of extent of the condition is highly variable. It may be caused by allergies, irritants or other factors such as stress.
Facial pain: Pain affecting the face
Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
Hand, Foot, & Mouth Disease: Common contagious viral infant or child condition
Headache: In medicine a headache or cephalalgia is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes neck. Some of the causes are benign while others are medical emergencies. It ranks among the most common pain complaints
Herpes: Virus with one subtype causing cold sores and another causing genital herpes.
Herpesvirus: A group of DNA viruses that occur in humans
Keratitis: Any inflammation of the cornea of the eye
Malaise: General feelings of discomfort or being ill-at-ease.
Ramsay Hunt syndrome: Facial paralysis with a vesicular eruption
Rash: A reaction to the exposure of the skin to an allergen
Rickettsial pox:
SCID: Major failure of the immune system, usually genetic.
Scabies: Mite infection of the skin common in institutions.
Scleritis: Inflammation of the white part of eyeball
Shingles: Infectious viral infection occuring years after chickenpox infection.
Smallpox: Dangerous virus now almost eliminated worldwide by vaccination.
Sore throat: Discomfort in the throat or with swallowing
Stevens-Johnson Syndrome: A rare but serious condition involving inflammation and blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. It is believed to be an allergic reaction that can occur in response to some drugs or infectious diseases.
Tiredness: Feeling tired either physically or mentally
Vaccine-preventable diseases: Any disease that can be prevented by the administration of a vaccine
Varicella - Teratogenic Agent: There is strong evidence to indicate that the development of Varicella during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
