Collapsed lung

Collapsed lung: Introduction

Is a condition where all or part of the lung collapses or deflates due to the space between the lung and the chest cavity becoming filled with air. This air misplacement can occur if there is an injury to the chest wall or if there is a hole in the lung. This condition impairs the normal transfer of oxygen from the lungs to the blood stream. The condition is also known as a pneumothorax.
