Glossary for Connective tissue disorders

  • Arthritis: General name for any type of joint inflammation, but often means age-related osteoarthritis.
  • Bone changes: Changes to the bones as a symptom
  • Bone symptoms: Symptoms affecting the body's bones
  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Severe chronic fatigue disorder often following infection.
  • Chronic Neutrophilic Leukemia: A rare form of leukemia characterized by excessive levels of mature neutrophils.
  • Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: A group of inherited connective tissue disorders primarily involving the joints and skin. There are 11 disorders in the group.
  • Epidermolysis bullosa: A group of rare inherited skin diseases characterized by fragile skin which forms blisters with even minor injuries. The blisters can be painful and can occur anywhere on the skin and even inside the digestive tract.
  • Erythroderma: Condition with thickening and flaking skin
  • Heritable Disorders of Connective Tissue: Genetic inheritable connective tissue disorders.
  • Joint symptoms: Symptoms affecting the joints.
  • Lupus: Autoimmune disease with numerous effects on various organs and linings.
  • Marfan syndrome: A genetic connective tissue disorder involving a defect of chromosome 15q21.1 which affects the production of the fibrillin needed to make connective tissue.
  • Muscle weakness: A condition which is characterized by an inability of the muscles to function at their full strenght
  • Osteogenesis imperfecta: Weak bones ("brittle bone disease") and loose joints
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: Autoimmune form of arthritis usually in teens or young adults.
  • Scleroderma: A rare, progressive connective tissue disorder involving thickening and hardening of the skin and connective tissue. There are a number of forms of scleroderma with some forms being systemic (involving internal organs).
  • Sjogren's Syndrome: Autoimmune disease damaging the eye tear ducts and other glands.
  • Skin symptoms: Symptoms affecting the skin.
  • Stiff joints: Reduced mobility or movement of the joints
  • Swollen bone: Enlarged, swollen, or misshapen bones
  • Ulcerative colitis: Ulcerative colitis (Colitis ulcerosa, UC) is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Ulcerative colitis is a form of colitis, a disease of the intestine, specifically the large intestine or colon, that includes characteristic ulcers, or open sores, in the colon.
  • Warfarin syndrome: Various physical and other abnormalities that can result from the use of the drug Warfarin during the first trimester of pregnancy.
  • Weak skin: Weakening of the skin texture.
