Glossary for Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma

  • Alopecia: Various types of hair loss or balding
  • Atopic dermatitis: Skin disorder characterized by chronic inflammation, and pruritis. Often hereditary and associated with allergic rhinitis and asthma.
  • Death: The cessation of life
  • Enlarged lymph nodes: Where the lymph glands are swollen more than there normal size
  • Erythema: A condition which is characterized by redness of the skin due to congestion of the capillaries
  • Hyperpigmentation: Excess skin pigment or coloration
  • Itching skin: Itching feeling of the skin.
  • Large plaque parapsoriasis: A skin condition characterized by red scaly skin lesions which resemble psoriasis. The chronic, inflammatory skin lesions are relatively difficult to treat. The lesions are considered precursors to Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
  • Leprosy: A chronic, progressive infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae which causes skin sores and also affects the eyes, mucous membranes and peripheral nerves.
  • Metastatic cancer: Any cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.
  • Mycosis fungoides: Mycosis fungoides is a rare form of T-cell lymphoma of the skin. The disease is typically slowly progressive and chronic.
  • Parapsoriasis: A group of skin condition characterized by red scaly skin which resemble psoriasis. The chronic, inflammatory skin lesions are relatively difficult to treat. The skin lesions may develop into cutaneous T-cell lymphoma.
  • Pruritus: The sensation of itch
  • Psoriasis: Chronic skin rash condition, usually red or silver and blistery.
  • Sezary syndrome: A rare type of lymphoma characterized by skin redness, leukemia and enlarged lymph nodes.
  • Tinea corporis: A condition which is characterized by tinea of glabrous skin
