When considering a method of contraception, it is important to know that there are many myths and false claims about how to prevent pregnancy.
The Myth - Douching after intercourse will prevent pregnancy.
The Fact - Douching has not been proven to prevent pregnancy.
The Myth - A virgin will not get pregnant during her first intercourse.
The Fact - A woman or young girl who has begun to ovulate can get pregnant the first time she has intercourse.
The Myth - Having sex standing up or in any other particular position will prevent pregnancy.
The Fact - Pregnancy can occur after having intercourse in any position.
The Myth - A woman cannot get pregnant after having only one episode of sexual intercourse.
The Fact - It only takes one experience with intercourse to fertilize an egg and become pregnant.
The Myth - A woman cannot get pregnant by having sexual intercourse during menstruation.
The Fact - A woman can become pregnant at any time during her menstrual cycle, although it may be less likely at certain times.
The Myth - A woman cannot get pregnant while nursing.
The Fact - A woman can still get pregnant while nursing, although for some women at certain times during the period of lactation, it may be less likely.
