Cure Research for Diabetic Nephropathy

Cure Research list for Diabetic Nephropathy:

The list of research areas and treatments under analysis mentioned in various sources for Diabetic Nephropathy includes:

  • Vitamin E
  • Retinopathy treatments - There is some evidence that kidney nephropathy and eye retinopathy share similar features because they are both small blood vessel diseases. Hence, it is worth considering whether some of the treatments for eye retinopathy might also work for nephropathy.

Medical Research Breakthroughs and Diabetic Nephropathy

Uric acid levels....the new test for diabetes....: Researchers at Boston have found an abnormal increase in uric acid levels as an early sign in a patient of kidney disease with type 1 diabetes mellitus. The previous screening test used for detecting diabetic kidney disease is detection of urine albumin levels. Normally albumin is not excreted in the urine in the kidney. Earlier estimation of albumin levels was done to detect any significant changes in the kidney of a diabetic, especially type 1 diabetes. These patients had a small amount of albumin in the urine. The study conducted in 675 patients with type 1 diabetes showed that only less 50% patients had albumin in the urine while the rest of them had normal urine with no albumin. But the kidney disease was present in patients with normal urine albumin levels. The estimation of Uric acid according to the study has been found in all patients with the diabetic kidney disease. The higher the levels of uric acid in patients, the lower the functioning capacity of the kidney. The researchers also noticed that the acid levels could be modified with help of drugs or decreased protein in diet. This could help in decline in course of renal failure in type 1 diabetes.

Cure Research discussion for Diabetic Nephropathy:

Participants in the DCCT were tested to assess the development of diabetic kidney disease (nephropathy). Findings showed that intensive treatment prevented the development and slowed the progression of diabetic kidney disease by 50 percent.
