Dry eyes not pretty sight: Researchers at Harvard Medical School have found that Eye Drops containing alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) was found to reduce the symptoms seen commonly in Dry eyes in mice. Dry eyes is a most common problem affecting more than millions of people worldwide. It causes burning, irritation, stinging and an itchy feeling. It affects people in daily activities such as driving and also reading. ALA is an omega-3 fatty acid which is not synthesized in the body and has to be obtained externally in form of diet. The eyes of mice treated with this eye drops was found to have a significant reversal in the damage seen in cornea, the outer covering of the pupil. It was also found to lessen the effects seen on oral intake of fatty acids.
