Glossary for Endometritis

Adenomyosis: A rare disorder where the endometrium (lining of the uterus) grows inside the muscle walls of the uterus. The condition is generally harmless but can be very painful.
Childbirth: Delivery of a fetus by a pregnant woman.
Endometrial Cancer: Cancer of the endometrium (uterus lining).
Endometrial conditions: Conditions that affect the female endometrium that is located in the uterus
Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
Gentamicin - Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Gentamicin (an antibiotic) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
Induced Abortion: Some studies suggest that induced abortions may increase the risk of premature birth or stillbirth in subsequent pregnancies. There is no conclusive evidence to support this.
Interstitial cystitis: A rare condition involving inflammatory disease of the bladder which progresses slowly.
Irritable bowel syndrome: Spasms in the colon wall
Lower abdominal pain: The occurrence of pain located in the lower abdominal region
Miscarriage: Loss of fetus without human interference
Ovarian Cancer: Cancer of the ovaries.
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: Infection of the womb and fallopian tubes.
Primary Dysmenorrhea: Painful menstruation which is not associated with pelvic pathology
Uterine leiomyoma: A condition which is characterized by a benign tumour of the uterus derived from smooth muscle
Uterus conditions: Any condition that affects the female uterus
Vaginal discharge: Discharge from the vagina as a symptom
Vaginal odor: Vaginal smell or scent symptoms
