Cure Research for Fetal alcohol syndrome

Medical Research Breakthroughs and Fetal alcohol syndrome

Drinking dulls brain's ability to detect threats: According to a new study by US researchers it has been found that drinking alcohol dulls the brain’s ability to detect threats which explains why people who are drunk cannot tell when the guy at the end of the bar is angling for a fight. They said the study is the first of its kind to show how alcohol affects the human brain as it responds to threats. 12 people who were given intravenous infusions of alcohol were studied and their brain activity was monitored using functional magnetic resonance imaging while they looked at pictures frightened and neutral faces. The team then did the same study on these people when they were given a saline infusion as a placebo. As expected, when people were given the placebo, their brains responded to the fearful faces and however their response were dull when the infusion of alcohol was given. This impaired appreciation for threats could lead to a host of risky situations, including drunken driving.
