Glossary for Gingivostomatitis

  • Acute mercury inhalation: Inhalation of mercury vapor can lead to serious symptoms and even death if sufficient quantities are inhaled. Mercury inhalation is more likely in confined or poorly ventilated spaces. Mercury from a broken thermometer can lead to symptoms if it occurs in a confined space.
  • Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis: A rare form of bacterial oral infection which causes inflammation and ulceration of the gums. The infection results in an excess number of the bacteria which are normally found in healthy mouths. Certain viruses may be a factor in allowing the overgrowth of these bacteria. Factors such as smoking, stress, poor nutrition and poor oral hygiene may increase the risk of the infection.
  • Aphthous stomatitis: A rare condition characterized by recurring painful ulcers in the mouth.
  • Cold sores: Skin cores on the skin, face, or lips.
  • Dehydration: Loss of fluids in the body
  • Gum disorders: Any disorder the affects the gums of the human mouth
  • Keratitis: Any inflammation of the cornea of the eye
  • Low-grade fever: is fever not exceeding 38.5 degree centigrade
  • Malaise: General feelings of discomfort or being ill-at-ease.
  • Mouth conditions: Any condition that affects the mouth
  • Mouth pain: Pain or burning of the mouth
  • Mouth ulcers: Ulcers in the mouth membranes or oral areas
  • Stomatitis: Mouth lining inflammation or infection
  • Tongue Conditions: Any condition that affects the tongue
  • Tongue ulcers: Ulcers that appear on the tongue
