Glossary for Glanders

  • Bioterrorism: The use of biological warfare for the use of terrorism
  • Chest pain: Pain in the chest area.
  • Death: The cessation of life
  • Diseases contagious from animals: Diseases that can be contracted from animals
  • Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
  • Fortaz - Teratogenic Agent: There is evidence to indicate that exposure to Fortaz (an antibiotic) during pregnancy may have a teratogenic effect on the fetus. A teratogen is a substance that can cause birth defects. The likelihood and severity of defects may be affected by the level of exposure and the stage of pregnancy that the exposure occurred at.
  • Lung symptoms: Symptoms affecting one or both lungs.
  • Melioidosis: Bacterial infection from soil or water.
  • Muscle aches: Aches affecting one or more muscles
  • Muscle symptoms: Symptoms affecting the muscles of the body
  • Pus: White or yellow oozing fluid
