Glossary for Goodpasture syndrome

  • Autoimmune diseases: A group of disorders in which the primary cause is the an inflammatory reaction caused by the body's own immune system attacking tissues
  • Blood in urine: Blood or blood-like discoloration of urine.
  • Burning during urination: The experience of burning sensation when urinating
  • Churg-Strauss Syndrome: A condition characterized by blood vessel inflammation that occurs throughout the body.
  • Fatigue: Excessive tiredness or weakness.
  • Glomerular Disease: Condition affecting the glomerules in the kidney.
  • Glomerulonephritis: Kidney disease where the kidney's have problems removing waste material and excessive fluid.
  • Goodpasture's syndrome: A condition which is characterized by glomerulonephritis and pulmonary hemorrhage with circulating antibodies against basement membranes.
  • Hemoptysis: A condition which is characterized by the coughing up of blood or blood stained sputum
  • Kidney conditions: Any condition affecting the kidney organs.
  • Kidney disease: Reduced kidney function from various causes.
  • Kidney stones: Stone-like calcium deposits in the kidney.
  • Kidney symptoms: Symptoms affecting one or both kidneys.
  • Legionnaires' disease: A severe respiratory disease which is caused by the Legionella pneumophila bacteria. The condition can result in pneumonia and can be life-threatening.
  • Lung conditions: Various conditions affecting the lungs or related airways.
  • Lung symptoms: Symptoms affecting one or both lungs.
  • Lupus: Autoimmune disease with numerous effects on various organs and linings.
  • Microscopic Polyangiitis: A condition which is characterized by inflammation of microscopic blood or lymph vessels
  • Nausea: The queasy feeling of nausea and often also vomiting.
  • Vague symptoms: Vague, unclear, mild or non-specific symptoms
  • Wegener's granulomatosis: A rare disease involving blood vessel inflammation which can affect the blood flow to various tissues and organs and hence cause damage. The respiratory system and the kidneys are the main systems affected.
