Medical Research Breakthroughs and Gum disease

MIni light sabres could replace toothbrushes: Reports from New Scientist Researchers from the Forsyth Institute of Boston, US, say that mini light sabres could one day replace toothbrushes in the battle against gum disease and tooth decay, scientists are working on anew hand held device that kills only bad bacteria with just two minutes of treatment each day which should be enough to prevent, control or treat gum disease. The blue light emitted will be more effective at eradicating harmful bacteria than antiseptic mouthwash. Researchers are of the opinion that the patient feels nothing when the blue light is applied to the dental pocket- the area between the teeth and the gums where the dental plaque resides and would particularly be beneficial to those who don’t like using a toothbrush.
