Glossary for Hantavirus

• Bleeding symptoms: Any type of bleeding symptoms.
• Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
• Headache: In medicine a headache or cephalalgia is a symptom of a number of different conditions of the head and sometimes neck. Some of the causes are benign while others are medical emergencies. It ranks among the most common pain complaints
• Hereditary pancreatitis: A rare inherited condition involving recurring bouts of pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) often leading to chronic pancreatitis due to scarring of the pancreas.
• Hermansky-Pudlak Syndrome: A rare disorder characterized by various degrees of albinism, bleeding due to a platelet defect and accumulation of a waxy substance in cells (lysosomal ceroid storage).
• Malaise: General feelings of discomfort or being ill-at-ease.
• Neutrophilia: Raised neutrophil levels in the blood.
• Plague: A rare but serious bacterial infection involving the bacterium Yersinia Pestis which can be carried by rodents and transmitted to humans by flea bites or through direct contact with an infected animal.
• Pneumonia: Infection of the lung by bacteria, viruses or fungus.
• Respiratory failure: Failure of the respiratory system
• Rodent-borne disease: Any disease that is carried by rodents
• Thrombocytopenia: Decreased platelets in the blood
• Viral diseases: Any disease that is caused by a virus
