Heel spur
Introduction: Heel spur
An abnormal bony growth that occurs on the heel bone. It is associated with plantar fasciitis which is an inflammation of the tendon that runs from the heel to the ball of the foot. The heel spur itself is not painful and it is the associated plantar fasciitis which is the cause of the heel pain.
Symptoms of Heel spur
- Bony heel growth
- Foot pain
- Heel pain
- Heel pain when walking
- Heel pain under weight bearing
Diagnostic Tests for Heel spur
- Physical exam - though the spur cannot often be detected by examination.
- X-rays
- Walking assessment - to detect any gait abnormality causing the problem.
