Glossary for Heroin dependence

  • Addiction: Any of various addictions to substances or activities.
  • Anxiety: Excessive worry, anxiety, or fear.
  • Chemical addiction: Addiction to and abuse of various substances.
  • Cheyne-Stokes respirations: Breathing with regularly occurring apnoeic episodes and change in rate of breathing.
  • Constipation: Difficult or dry bowel movements
  • Cramps: The painful spasmodic muscular contraction
  • Death: The cessation of life
  • Depression: Various syndromes with excessive anxiety, phobias, or fear.
  • Depressive symptoms: Inappropriate depressed mood.
  • Diarrhea: Loose or watery stool.
  • Drug abuse: Addiction to any of various illicit drugs.
  • Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
  • HIV/AIDS: HIV is a sexually transmitted virus and AIDS is the progressive immune failure that HIV causes.
  • Hepatitis: Any type of liver inflammation or infection.
  • Heroin overdose: Heroin is an illegal and highly addictive recreational drug. Excessive doses of the drug can result in various symptoms and even death in severe cases.
  • Kwashiorkor: A malnutrition state that is produced by severe protein deficiency
  • Myoclonus: Sudden involuntary muscle twitching or movement.
  • Nausea: The queasy feeling of nausea and often also vomiting.
  • Pupillary constriction: miosis is constriction of the pupil of the eye
  • Respiratory failure: Failure of the respiratory system
  • Rhabdomyolysis: Skeletal muscle injury or death, which releases muscle fibres into the blood.
  • Septicemia: A systemic inflammatory response to an infection.
  • Social problems: Difficulty relating to other people
  • Society problems: Difficulty interacting in society.
  • Sudden death: The sudden death of an individual
  • Tremors: Involuntary trembling most commonly of the hands.
  • Urine retention: Partial or total inability to excrete urine
  • Vomiting: Vomiting or retching symptoms.
  • Withdrawal symptoms: The occurrence of a group a symptoms that occur due to a withdrawal reaction that occurs when discontinuing use of a substance
