Glossary for Hyperhidrosis

Alternating hemiplegia of childhood: A rare neurological disorder involving paralysis on one side of the body that is only temporary but occurs often. The extent of the paralysis is variable.
Anxiety: Excessive worry, anxiety, or fear.
Autonomic Dysreflexia: A complication of spinal cord injury where a particular stimulus can trigger an excessive response from the autonomic nervous system which causes blood pressure to rise - sometimes to dangerous levels. Stimuli that can trigger the response include bladder irritation, bowel irritation (e.g. due to constipation, gas, enema), skin irritation (e.g. due to burns, pressure sores, ingrown toenails), broken bones, tight clothing, labour and temperature extremes. The severity and frequency of the condition is highly variable. The condition occurs in patients with tetraplegia or with loss of sensation above the lower rib cage.
Autonomic neuropathy: A disorder of the nervous system concerned with regulation of activity of cardiac muscle, smooth muscle, and glands, usually restricted to the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems
Dermatopathia pigmentosa reticularis: A very rare syndrome characterized mainly by increased skin pigmentation, thickened skin on palms and soles and reduced sweating.
Frey's syndrome: A rare condition where the ears and/or cheeks become flushed or sweaty upon eating spicy, hot or bitter substances or chocolate. Injury to the facial nerve near the parotic gland causes the condition.
Fucosidosis: A rare progressive biochemical disorder involving deficiency of an enzyme (alpha-fucosidase) which results in accumulation of certain chemicals (glycosphingolipids) in the central nervous system and other body tissues.
Gamstorp-Wohlfart syndrome: A rare disorder characterized by muscle weakness, low muscle tone, increased sweating and muscle twitching (myokymia)
Hyperthyroidism: Too much thyroid hormone production.
Hypoglycemia: Low blood sugar level
Infection: Infections as a symptom.
Jadassohn-Lewandowsky syndrome: A rare, inherited disorder characterized by thickening of nails, white patches on mouth and anus(leukoplakia) and thickened hard skin on soles and palms.
Meleda Disease: A very rare inherited skin disorder primarily involving dry thick skin patches that develop on the palms of hands and soles of feet. The type and severity of symptoms is variable.
Menopause: The end of female menstruation and fertility.
Myotonic Dystrophy: An inherited disorder characterized by progressive muscle weakness and wasting as well as eye defects, heart abnormalities and other anomalies. The severity of the condition is greatly variable. There are two type of myotonic dystrophy with type 1 being more severe than type 2.
Neurosis: Variety of mental disorders with self-awareness
Orthostatic hypotension: Sudden low blood pressure when a person stands up or changes posture.
Pachydermoperiostosis: A rare genetic ectodermal disorder characterized by thick coarse skin and limb clubbing.
Panic disorder: It is a severe medical condition characterized by extremely elevated mood.
Pheochromocytoma: Pheochromocytoma is a neuroendocrine tumor of the medulla of the adrenal glands (originating in the chromaffin cells), or extra-adrenal chromaffin tissue that failed to involute after birth and secretes excessive amounts of catecholamines, usually epinephrine and norepinephrine.
Scaly skin: Toughness or scaliness of the skin
Serotonin Syndrome: The toxic reaction of the body to the substance, possibly via allergic reaction or overdose.
Sweating: Sweating more than normal
Transient osteoporosis of the hip: Focal pain conditions in the hip often interchangeably termedreflex sympathetic dystrophyor transient osteoporosis.
