Legg-Calve-Perthes disease: Introduction

Osteochondrosis of the head of the femur in children. Osteochondrosis is a malfunction of the bone building process where first the bone degenerates and is then regenerated. In Perthes disease the enlarged ends (epiphyses) of the thigh bone (femur) are degenerated and then regenerated or recalcified. The condition is also known as coxa plana, Perthes disease or pseudocoxalgia.
