Leukocyte Adhesion Defect

Leukocyte Adhesion Defect: Introduction

An genetic disorder affecting the body's immune system. White blood cells (leukocytes) receive the message that there is an infection but due to a lack or insufficiency of a certain protein, they are unable to travel to the site of the infection. The missing protein is needed to help the white blood cell sick to the blood vessel walls and travel to the infection site and protect the body. As a result, sufferers have recurring bacterial infections which can become very serious.
