Glossary for Lymphogranuloma venereum

  • Abdominal Pain: A condition which is characterized by the sensation of pain that is located in the abdomen
  • Acute Appendicitis: Infection of the appendix
  • Bacterial diseases: Diseases caused by a bacterial infection
  • Bowel Obstruction: Blockage in the bowel of the digestive tract.
  • Chancroid: An sexually transmitted disease caused by the Haemophilus ducreyi bacteria and is characterized by painful genital ulceration.
  • Chlamydia: Common sexually transmitted disease often without symptoms.
  • Erythema nodosum: Allergic skin condition usually on the legs
  • Fever: Elevation of the body temperature above the normal 37 degrees celsius
  • Fistula: The abnormal passage between two internal organs
  • Genital herpes: Sexually transmitted infection of the genital region.
  • Genital sores: Skin sores in the genital regions.
  • Granuloma inguinale: Granulomous disease spread sexually.
  • Lymphedema: Swelling causes by lymphatic fluid retention
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease: Infection of the womb and fallopian tubes.
  • Penis symptoms: Various symptoms affecting the male penis
  • Plague: A rare but serious bacterial infection involving the bacterium Yersinia Pestis which can be carried by rodents and transmitted to humans by flea bites or through direct contact with an infected animal.
  • Primary syphilis: A condition which is characterized by a primary chancre which is infectious and painless
  • Salpingitis: Inflammation of the fallopian tubes
  • Tuberculosis: Bacterial infection causing nodules forming, most commonly in the lung.
  • Tularemia: A rare infections disease caused by the bacterium Francisella tularensis (a gram-negative pleomorphic coccobacillus). Transmission occurs through contact with infected animals or there habitats e.g. bites from infected insects or other animals, eating infected wild animals, contact with contaminated water and soil. Symptoms can vary greatly depending on the method of infection. For example infection through inhalation can cause symptoms similar to pneumonia, eating infected animals can cause a sore throat and abdominal symptoms and transmission through the skin can cause result in a painful skin ulcer.
  • Tumor: Any type of lump or swelling (not just cancers)
  • Ulcerative colitis: Ulcerative colitis (Colitis ulcerosa, UC) is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Ulcerative colitis is a form of colitis, a disease of the intestine, specifically the large intestine or colon, that includes characteristic ulcers, or open sores, in the colon.
  • Urethritis: Inflammation of the urethra
  • Vaginal rash: An eruption on the skin of the vagina.
