Glossary for McCune-Albright Syndrome

  • Acromegaly: A hormonal disorder involving excess growth hormone production by the pituitary gland.
  • Arm symptoms: Symptoms affecting the arm
  • Bencze syndrome: A rare inherited condition characterized mainly by abnormal, asymmetrical facial bone growth and eye problems in some cases.
  • Bone changes: Changes to the bones as a symptom
  • Bone conditions: Conditions that affect the bones
  • Bone symptoms: Symptoms affecting the body's bones
  • Cushing's syndrome: A rare syndrome where excessive secretion of corticosteroids by the adrenal cortex leads to a variety of symptoms. Hormone-secreting adrenal or pituitary tumors are often the cause of the excessive corticosteroid secretion.
  • Fractures: Fracture of a bone; also "broken bone".
  • Graves Disease: is an autoimmune disease characterized by hyperthyroidism due to circulating autoantibodies. Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins (TSIs) bind to and activate thyrotropin receptors, causing the thyroid gland to grow and the thyroid follicles to increase synthesis of thyroid hormone.
  • Hyperthyroidism: Too much thyroid hormone production.
  • Leg symptoms: Symptoms affecting the leg
  • McCune-Albright Syndrome: A rare genetic multisystem disorder characterized by abnormal skin pigmentation and endocrine gland dysfunction and replacement of parts of bone tissue with fibrous material.
  • Osteitis: Inflammation of the bone.
  • Ovarian cysts: Cysts occurring in the ovaries.
  • Pathological fracture: The occurrence of a fracture a bone of the body caused by a disease state
  • Properdin deficiency, X-linked: A rare condition where an inherited deficiency of properdin (a blood plasma component) affects immunity. In particular, susceptibility to Neisseria infections is increased.
  • Rickets: A rare condition where a lack of Vitamin D results in bone disease as it is essential for the process of bone calcification.
  • Skin conditions: Any condition that affects the skin
  • Skull deformity: A condition which is characterized by a deformity that is located in the skull
