Prognosis of Melanoma
Prognosis of Melanoma: If caught early, melanoma can be cured. The risk of the cancer coming back increases with the depth of the tumor -- deeper tumors are more likely to come back. If the cancer has spread to lymph nodes, there is a greater chance that the melanoma will come back. ...see also Overview of Melanoma

Prognosis of Melanoma Discussion
Skin Cancer: NWHIC (Excerpt)
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, is highly curable when
found in its earliest stages. Surgical removal of thin melanomas can cure
the disease in most cases. The thicker the melanoma, the lower the
survival rate. (Source: excerpt from Skin Cancer: NWHIC)
What You Need To Know About Melanoma: NCI (Excerpt)
Melanoma can be cured if it is diagnosed and treated when
the tumor is thin and has not deeply invaded the skin.
However, if a melanoma is not removed at its early stages,
cancer cells may grow downward from the skin surface, invading
healthy tissue. When a melanoma becomes thick and deep, the
disease often spreads to other parts of the body and is
difficult to control. (Source: excerpt from What You Need To Know About Melanoma: NCI)
Recurrence of Melanoma
People who have had melanoma have a high risk of developing
a new melanoma. (Source: excerpt from What You Need To Know About Melanoma: NCI)
