Glossary for Microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism, type 1

  • Bulging eyes: Bulging or protruding eyes
  • Dwarfism: Short stature. There are several types of dwarfism: acromelic (short hand and foot bones), mesomelic (short forearm and lower leg bones) and rhizomelic (short upper arm and leg bones).
  • Intrauterine Growth Retardation: Slowly growing fetus in the womb during pregnancy
  • Low birth weight: When the weight of a new born baby is below average
  • Microcephaly: Small head circumference
  • Pachygyria: A condition which is characterized by the presence of thick convolutions of the cerebral cortex
  • Small head: The occurrence of a head which is smaller than normal
