CGD: Another name for Chronic Granulomatous Disease.
CGD (condition): A very rare inherited blood disorder where certain cells involved with immunity (phagocytes) are unable to destroy bacteria and hence the patient suffers repeated bacterial infections.
CGD: The CGD patient's defense system is not effective against certain bacteria and fungi, including E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus, as well as less common germs like Pseudomonas, Serratia, and Aspergillus. (Source: excerpt from Primary Immune Deficiency, NIAID Fact Sheet: NIAID)
