More information on medical condition: Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome:
RSDS: Another name for Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome.
RSDS (condition): A condition characterized by pain and reduced range of motion in the shoulder and hand of the affected arm.
RSDS: Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome (RSDS) is a chronic condition characterized by severe burning pain, pathological changes in bone and skin, excessive sweating, tissue swelling, and extreme sensitivity to touch. The syndrome is a nerve disorder that occurs at the site of an injury (most often to the arms or legs). It occurs especially after injuries from high-velocity impacts such as those from bullets or shrapnel. However, it may occur without apparent injury. Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome , or RSDS, is accompanied by burning pain and hypersensitivity to temperature. Often triggered by trauma or nerve damage, RSDS causes the skin of the affected area to become characteristically shiny. In recent years, RSDS has come to be called complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS); in the past it was often called causalgia. (Source: excerpt from Pain - Hope Through Research: NINDS)
