Contingent Fee Agreement: A contingent fee agreement is where an attorney works on a case for a contingency fee. This is where the attorney receives a fee only if damages or settlement are received from the defendant. The issue of who pays the actual costs of the lawsuit (i.e. costs other than the attorney's fees) are also an issue in attorney-client agreements. It is also possible to have mixed fee agreements where the attorney receives some hourly rate (usually a reduced rate compared to one without any contingency fee involved) and an additional contingency fee if successful in the suit.
