Lawsuit: A lawsuit is the formal legal proceeding that arises from the filing of a claim or complaint. The lawsuit is brought by the plaintiff against the defendant. There may be more than one plaintiff or more than one defendant. The plaintiff may be a single person (e.g. a patient), group of people, corporation or other legal entity. Similarly, the defendant ay be a single person (e.g. a doctor), group of people, corporation (e.g. hospital) or other legal entity.
