Party

Party: General legal term for one of the people or entities in a lawsuit or contract.

Party: The term "party" is used to refer to one of the people or entities involved in a lawsuit (and also in contracts). In a lawsuit, one party is the plaintiff, and another is the defendant. In medical malpractice, a typical plaintiff is the patient, and a typical defendant is a doctor, medical professional, or medical organization. The plaintiff may be a single person (e.g. a patient), group of people, corporation or other legal entity. Similarly, the defendant ay be a single person (e.g. a doctor), group of people, corporation (e.g. hospital) or other legal entity.
