Bone scan

Introduction: Bone scan

Description of Bone scan

Bone scan: One type of bone scan is used to diagnose osteoporosis and involves using x-ray beams or ultrasound to determine the solidity of the bone. The other type of bone scan requires the use of a radioactive substance and is used to find abnormal bone formation such as that seen in stress fractures, arthritis, infection or cancers.

Bone scan: A technique to create images of bones on a computer screen or on film. A small amount of radioactive material is injected into a blood vessel and travels through the bloodstream; it collects in the bones and is detected by a scanner.
