Cervical vertebrae as an Organ

Cervical vertebrae (organ): The cervical vertebrae are irregular bones which envelop, support and protect the spinal cord and make up the spinal column of the neck. There are seven cervical vertebrae, which also support the head and help to support and give structure to the neck. The cervical vertebrae allow for movement of the neck and head by providing points for muscle attachments. The seven cervical vertebrae form a part of the axial skeleton and include C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C6 and C7.

Conditions related to or afflicting the cervical vertebrae include odontoid fracture, osteoporosis, osteomyelitis, strains, neurogenic shock, hangman's fracture and herniated disks.
