Cherokee-bean poisoning (medical condition): The Coral bean is a perennial herb which has scarlet flowers on a long stem and bears long pods containing bright red seeds. The plant (especially the seeds) contain chemicals (alkaloids and cyanogenic glycoside) which can cause symptoms if eaten. The plant is considered to have a low level of toxicity if eaten.
