Description of Cherry-red spot

Cherry-red spot: the ophthalmoscopic appearance of the normal choroid beneath the fovea centralis, appearing as a red spot surrounded by white retinal edema in central artery closure or lipid infiltration in sphingolipidosis. SYN: Tay cherry-red spot.
