The brain is located in the in the cranial cavity in the skull and is connected to the spinal cord. The spinal cord is located in the spinal cavity in the spinal column. The entire central nervous system is enclosed in the meninges.
The central nervous system dispatches and receives messages in the form of nerve impulses from the organs of sense, including the ears, nose, tongue, skin, and eyes. It also processes information received from nerve impulses and manages the body's voluntary motor movements and interactions and reactions to the environment, including controlling movement and behaviour. The central system interacts directly or indirectly with every other system in the body, including the musculoskeletal system, genitourinary system, circulatory system, immune system, respiratory system, digestive system, respiratory system and endocrine system.
