Endocrine glands as an Organ

Endocrine glands (organ): Endocrine glands are glands that do not have ducts and produce and excrete a variety of hormones directly into the bloodstream. The endocrine glands and the hormones they produce are critical to many activities and processes in the body. These include reproduction, metabolism, and growth. The endocrine glands are a part of the endocrine system along with hormone-producing tissues located in such organs as the heart, skin, and placenta. The endocrine glands include the pituitary gland, pineal gland, thyroid, parathyroid, thymus, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries and testes.

A few examples of conditions that afflict the endocrine glands include Graves' disease, hyperparathyroidism, hypothyroidism, diabetes, cancer, infection, polycystic ovarian disease, tumor, Addison's disease and infertility.
