Greater pelvis (organ): The greater pelvis is the upper or superior portion of the pelvis or pelvic area. The greater pelvis is located above and anterior to the pelvic brim. It is bordered in part by the ilium. Its functions include supporting the small intestine and colon.
Conditions that can afflict the greater pelvis include infection, cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, trauma and Crohn's disease.
