Hamate as an Organ

Hamate (organ): The hamate is one of eight small carpal bones, which are located in each wrist. The hamate articulates with other carpal bones and the fourth and fifth metacarpal bones to allow for the complex, flexible movements of the wrist. The hamate forms a part of the appendicular skeleton. Conditions that can afflict the hamate include infection, trauma, fracture, osteoporosis, osteomyelitis and dislocations.
