Description of Large intestine
Large intestine: [TA] the distal (aboral) portion of the digestive tube extending from the ileocecal valve to the anus; it comprises the cecum (with appendix), colon, rectum, and anal canal; shorter in length but larger in caliber than the small intestine, the large intestine functions to absorb fluids and electrolytes and provide temporary storage. Large intestine: The long, tube-like organ that is connected to the small intestine at one
end and the anus at the other. The large intestine has four parts: cecum,
colon, rectum, and anal canal. Partly digested food moves through the cecum
into the colon, where water and some nutrients and electrolytes are removed.
The remaining material, solid waste called stool, moves through the colon, is
stored in the rectum, and leaves the body through the anal canal and anus.

Large intestine as an organ
Large intestine (organ): Second intestine that mainly absorbs water and salts.
Large intestine (organ): The large intestine receives food after it has been processed by the small intestine. Whereas the small intestine absorbs most nutrients, the main purpose of the large intestine is to absorb water and salts. The remaining chyme is forwarded from the large intestine as feces into to the rectum
