Lead-induced polyneuropathy (medical condition): Exposure to lead can cause neuropathy as lead is toxic to the peripheral nervous system. This toxin causes mostly sensory or sensorimotor polyneuropathy (which affects sensation) with little or no weakness involved. Symptoms usually start in the outermost parts of the body such as the fingers and toes and moves towards the centre of the body. Due to the fact that any of a large number of toxins or conditions can cause neuropathies, it is very difficult to diagnose the exact cause.
